Happy Darwin Week everyone!
Be sure to check out the events at www.DarwinWeek.com. Before I hit up the Darwin Week talks, I thought I'd check in with what the campaigns have done three hours into the campaign season.
As many of you know, this is a critical time for the candidates as they race to get 'likes' on their Facebook group, followers on Twitter and to get their name out as candidates.
Already this morning I've been invited to both Facebook groups! I'm flattered. Curiously, my Jared/Tanner invite came from Nick Alvarado, who I suspect to be their campaign manager (look for a rundown of team bios once I figure out who they are). I checked out both groups and their 'like' counts are growing literally as I sit and refresh the page.
Kate and Renae's Group
Jared and Tanner's Group
Katie and Renae already have a youtube video up, linked through the 'About" page on their group. They have a couple paragraphs that look like a platform, but it's much too short on the details to be a serious platform. Stay tuned in this department. The YouTube video has some new faces, but so far its in the single digits for views. In it, they list their campaign website, http://www.katieandrenae.com/, but as of blogging time the site isn't 'live' yet. Oops!
UPDATE: the site is now live. Apologies.
In comparison, Jared and Tanner don't appear to have a website at all yet. Digging through their page I wasn't able to find much, not a twitter account, website, platform, nothing. They have some nice pictures taken and it appears they have a logo already, but I'm actually really disappointed in the rollout so far this morning. Jared/Tanner, help me out!
Both teams appear to have their slogans, usually a combination of three buzzwords to set the theme for the campaign. For example, my campaign was "Leaders, Innovators, Panthers" - super lame right? Next year I'd suggest the candidates innovate a little more in regard to sloganeering- Kate and Renae's slogan is " Engage. Educate. Encourage", while Jared and Tanner have got "Promote Engage Progress." Considering both campaigns chose to use ENGAGE, we better be ready for some serious engagement the rest of the week.
Stay tuned for updates, and share your thoughts in the comments! What have you seen so far this season? What are you hoping to see? How do you feel about the candidates?
