Election Season kicks off! (Informally)

Big news came in over the weekend everybody. Snuck in between UNI's monster win over Wichita State on Saturday afternoon, the inches of snow and the Super Bowl, two student organizations requests came in. Seemingly on cue, Speaker of the Senate and Friend of the Blog Eric Boisen forwarded me the organization requests for not one, but two tickets yesterday.

The first came in just after midnight Saturday night-

And later Sunday afternoon-

It looks like we have two tickets!! As some of the rumors have pointed, it looks like two of the 2015 NISG Presidential tickets are : Jared Heitz and Tanner Bernhard, and Katie Evans and Renae Beard.

In the attachments of the emails are the Constitutions of the orgs, most of which is quite boring. However, the listed faculty adviser tells us a little about what the campaigns are focused on. For the Heitz/Bernhard ticket, their advisor is listed as Nicholas Ranfanello, who in the UNI directory is listed in Residence Hall Administration as an Assistant Director/Communication and Leadership Dev. Considering Jared and Tanner have extensive RHA experience (more on this later), this makes sense to me.
For the Evans/Beard ticket, their advisor is listed as Donna Hoffman, the popular department head of the political science dept. Katie is an NISG veteran and political science major, so I'm guessing this was an easy choice for their campaign.

Now the fun begins! Will more tickets emerge? What are the tickets going to do to reach out to students? Who are these people anyway? Is anybody going to run for Senate?

In the meantime remember the candidates are prohibited from doing anything related to the campaign publicly, so don't go around being a troll. Yes, they are allowed to answer questions directed at them personally, but they can't post about it online until next Monday at 8 a.m. As a former election commissioner, I beg you to please not make Nathan's life hard.

I'll do my best to dig up on what I can find on the candidates and report back to you later this week for what I find. As always, remember to "like" the Northern Iowan's page, follow @NIonNISG on Twitter and subscribe to email updates from the blog!
