With new election rules, candidates may have more trouble than ever getting signatures to ensure their name on the upcoming ballot. Current rules state:
- Students seeking election shall obtain the following number of signatures before submitting their petition
- College Senators
- College of Business Administration - 25
- College of Education - 25
- College of Humanities, Arts, Sciences - 25
- College of Social and Behavioral Sciences - 25
- Interdisciplinary/General Studies/Undecided/Other - 25
- Graduate College -25
- President/Vice President Candidacy signatures - 150
- At least 25 should be from each of the categories listed in Section 6, subsection 6,
The trouble that candidates are having is getting the 25 signatures from "Interdisciplinary/General Studies/Undecided/Other." The primary issue is finding these individuals. There isn't a building that houses all the Undecided majors, like the COE and CBA. I would have trouble finding 3-4 students to sign, let alone 25. Based on feedback from the candidates this year, that is a rule that may come up for review. For now, though, candidates are stuck trying to find 25 students willing to sign their petition with "Interdisciplinary/General Studies/Undecided/Other" as a major. So if you identify as one of those students, please contact one of the candidates and let them know you can sign. You can comment here or email them directly.
Are we going to have rundowns of people running for senate positions? I sure hope so!
ReplyDeleteLiz,
DeleteYup!! The Election Commissioner is going to be send me the names of those people that officially get on the ballot once it's finalized this Sunday. So next week will be spent covering, in full, the senate races.
Keep checking back!
Technically, I shouldn't be able to sign for this section as my interdisciplinary major does fall under CSBS. However, the Election Commissioner believes I may be included in the number calculation and as such, can sign this area for students needing a signature. I'm usually in the NISG if you're looking for me!
