Here We Go

Tomorrow marks the first day of official campaign season. Beginning at 8 a.m., candidates will be allowed to officially campaign for NISG president and vice president. (Senate candidates will be able to start campaigning as well.) Expect all the presidential tickets to release websites, Facebook pages, and platforms in time for you to see them before lunch. Most importantly, we'll get a good sense for the themes and campaign strategies for each ticket. Some interesting things to look out for:

1. TV ads: In the past, candidates have used the relatively cheap TV airwaves to campaign. We haven't seen them since here, here, and here, but with a three-way race, it might be a good way to separate themselves from the competition.

2. Website layout: Last year, Spencer and Ian put together one of the most user-friendly and sophisticated websites in quite a while. Can any of the tickets make a comparable site? Or possible a better one?

3. Campaign themes: One of the best ways to gain name recognition, something most of the candidates desperately need, is to have a consistent and catchy theme. With the field wide open, winning this battle can be the fast track to winning the election.

You'll probably get invited to candidates' pages and events, and even receive friend requests. Don't just accept them and move on. Read their platforms and get to know the ticket. Most importantly, force them to answer a question (maybe regarding tuition, student life, or NISG) before you blindly accept their friend request. Candidates would love to hear from students. It's your job to give them something to listen to. Tomorrow will be a a big day; stay tuned to the blog for our initial reactions.

  1. Who has Morgan Johnson and April Czarnetzki on their campaign staff? They will have the best campaign advertising.
