My name is Jeff Harms and I am a graduate student in the Master of Accounting program. Along with Chris Miller, I will be a writer for this year's NISG Elections blog. I began working with student government at UNI my freshman year as a member of the Campbell Hall senate. My junior year, I began serving on NISG as an off-campus senator on the Organization and Finance Committee. During my second term as a senator, I was elected vice chair of the Organization and Finance Committee and also served on the Pepsi Fund Committee.
During my time at UNI, I was involved in several organizations outside of student government, including the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Order of Omega honor society, and the Panther Pacers running club. I have always believed that it is important to be as involved on campus as possible.
My objective in writing for the NISG Elections blog is to provide the student body with all the information necessary to make an informed decision during this year's NISG elections. Many students have very little knowledge about what goes on with NISG, and I hope that the NISG Elections blog will be used to help students keep up-to-date and knowledgeable during this year's campaign. The candidates who are elected to serve in NISG will have the ability to make decisions that will have a large impact on UNI, which makes it very important for students to select the best candidate for each position. The experience that Chris and I have with NISG and on campus will help us provide meaningful coverage and analysis to students throughout this year's election process.
I am excited to be able to once again serve the student body by providing insight and my opinion on the 2012 NISG elections. I will do my best to provide you with an honest analysis of candidates' qualifications and platforms so you can decide who will best serve you in NISG. We will do our best to give you news on this election before you can get it anywhere else, so you are aware of what is going on and informed throughout the entire election process.
